Assalamu alaikum,
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) is His slave and Messenger.
The Day of ‘Arafah is one of the greatest days in the sight of Allah, it is the day when Allah The Almighty revealed to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) the Ayah: { This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and have approved for you Islam as religion.}[Quran 5:3], it is the day of forgiveness and freedom from the Fire.
Fasting on the day of ‘Arafah is an expiation for two years
It was reported from Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was asked about fasting on the Day of ‘Arafah. He said, “It expiates for the sins of the previous year and of the coming year.” Narrated by Muslim.
This (fasting) is Mustahab (desirable) for those who are not on Hajj. In the case of the one who is on Hajj, it is not Sunnah for him to fast on the Day of ‘Arafah, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did not fast on this day in ‘Arafah. It was narrated that he forbade fasting on the Day of ‘Arafah in ‘Arafah.
‘Arafah is the day of forgiveness:
It is also the day of forgiveness of sins, freedom from the Fire and pride in the people who are there: It was narrated that ‘Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “There is no day on which Allah ransoms more of His slaves from the Fire than the day of ‘Arafah. He draws close then He boasts about them before the angels and says, ‘What do these people want?’” Narrated by Muslim.
It was also narrated from Ibn ‘Umar that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Allah expresses His pride to His angels at the time of ‘Ishaa’ on the Day of ‘Arafah, about the people of ‘Arafah. He says, ‘Look at My slaves who have come unkempt and dusty.” Narrated by Ahmad and classed as saheeh by al-Albani.
Du’aa’ on the day of ‘Arafah:
It was narrated from ‘Abd-Allah ibn ‘Amr ibn al-‘Aas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “The best of du’aa’ is du’aa’ on the day of ‘Arafah, and the best that I and the Prophets before me said is ‘Laa ilaaha ill-Allah wahdahu la shareeka lah, lahu’l-mulk wa lahu’l-hamd wa huwa ‘ala kulli shay’in qadeer (There is no god but Allah alone, with no partner or associate; His is the dominion, to Him be praise, and He has power over all things).” Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, classed as hasan by al-Albani in Saheeh al-Targheeb.
When Al-Fudhayl ibn ‘Iyaadh (may Allah have mercy upon him) stood at ‘Arafah and while other pilgrims invoking Allah The Almighty, he was crying like the bereaved [of a child] and could not even supplicate Allah The Almighty. It was almost sunset when he raised his sight to the sky and said, "O Allah, How ashamed I am of my sins before You, even if You have forgiven me!”.
Is du’aa’ on the day of ‘Arafah only for those who are on Hajj?
The scholars differed concerning this virtue of du’aa’ on the day of ‘Arafah, whether it applies only to those who are in ‘Arafah or it includes other places. The more correct view is that it is general and that the virtue is connected to the day, but undoubtedly those who are in ‘Arafah have combined the virtue of the place with the virtue of the time.
And Allah knows best.

Assalamu 'alaikum, Eid Mubarak!
Praise be to Allah and peace and blessings be upon His Messengers, our master Mohammed may Allah bless him and his family and companions and those who followed them in truth until the Day of Judgment.
Fasting six days of Shawal after the obligatory fast of Ramadan is Sunnah. It is recommended for the Muslim to fast six days of Shawal, as was reported in a saheeh hadeeth (Narrated by Muslim, Abu Dawood, al-Tirmidhi, al-Nisaa’i and Ibn Maajah) that Abu Ayyoob (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:
“Whoever fasts Ramadan and follows it with six days of Shawwaal, it will be as if he fasted for a lifetime.”
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) explained this when he said:
“Whoever fasts for six days after (Eid) al-Fitr has completed the year: (whoever does a good deed (hasanah) will have ten hasanah like it).
Al-Nisaa’i and Ibn Maajah reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:
“Allah has made for each hasanah ten like it, so a month is like fasting ten months, and fasting six days completes the year.”.
It was also narrated by Ibn Khuzaymah with the wording: “Fasting for the month of Ramadan brings the reward of ten like it, and fasting for six days brings the reward of two months, and that is the fasting of the whole year.”
Another of the important benefits of fasting six days of Shawal is that is makes up for any shortfall in a person\'s obligatory Ramadan fasts, because no one is free of shortcomings or sins that have a negative effect on his fasting. On the Day of Resurrection, some of his naafil deeds will be taken to make up the shortcomings in his obligatory deeds, as the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:
“The first thing for which people will be brought to account on the Day of Resurrection will be their salaah (prayer). Our Lord, may He be glorified and exalted, will say to His angels – although He knows best – ‘Look at the salaah of My slave, whether it is complete or incomplete.’ If it is perfect, it will be recorded as perfect, and if something is lacking, He will say, ‘Look and see whether My slave did any voluntary (naafil) prayers.’ If he did some voluntary prayers, [Allah] will say, Complete the obligatory actions of My slave from his voluntary actions.’ Then all his actions will be dealt with in a similar manner.” (Narrated by Abu Dawood).
When should a Muslim start fasting six days of Shawal?
Muslim can start fasting six days of Shawal from the second day of Shawal, because it is haraam to fast on the day of Eid. You can fast the six days at any time during Shawal, although the best of good deeds are those which are done soonest.
Is It valid to combine making up missed Ramadan fasts with fasting six days of Shawal with one intention?
That is not valid, because fasting the six days of Shawal can only be done after fasting Ramadan in full. And Allah knows the best.
May Allah accept our good deeds and forgive us.

Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu,
Praise be to Allah and peace and blessings be upon His Messengers, our master Mohammed may Allah bless him and his family and companions and those who followed them in truth until the Day of Judgment.
These are Some explanations regarding Laylat al-Qadr, May Allah help us to get it.
Firstly: There are reports which speak of the great virtue of doing acts of worship on Laylat al-Qadr. Our Lord, may He be blessed and exalted, has told us that it is better than a thousand nights, and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said that whoever spends this night in prayer out of faith and in the hope of reward will be forgiven his previous sins. Narrated by al-Bukhaari and Muslim.
Allah says: “Verily, We have sent it (this Qur’an) down in the Night of Al Qadr (Decree).
2. And what will make you know what the Night of Al Qadr (Decree) is?
3. The Night of Al Qadr (Decree) is better than a thousand months (i.e. worshipping Allah in that night is better than worshipping Him a thousand months, i.e. 83 years and 4 months).
4. Therein descend the angels and the Rooh [Jibreel (Gabriel)] by Allah’s Permission with all Decrees,
5. (All that night), there is peace (and goodness from Allah to His believing slaves) until the appearance of dawn” [al-Qadr 97:1-5].
And it was narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Whoever spends this night in prayer out of faith and in the hope of reward will be forgiven his previous sins.” Narrated by al-Bukhaari and Muslim.
Out of faith means believing in its virtue and in the reward for that. In the hope of reward means by seeking the pleasure of Allah.
Secondly: The scholars differed as to the definition of Laylat al-Qadr, and there are many opinions, more than forty as it says in Fath al-Baari. The most likely to be correct is the view that it is one of the odd-numbered nights among the last ten nights of Ramadan.
It was narrated from ‘Aa’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Seek Laylat al-Qadr among the odd numbered nights of the last ten nights of Ramadan.” Narrated by al-Bukhaari, and Muslim.
Imam Al-Bukhaari included this hadeeth in a chapter entitled: “Seeking Laylat al-Qadr among the odd numbered nights of the last ten nights (of Ramadan).” The reason why it is hidden is to encourage the Muslim to strive hard in worship and du’aa’ and dhikr during all the last ten nights of Ramadan.
This is the same reason why the time when du’aa’ is answered on Friday has not been defined, and why the ninety-names of Allah have not been defined, concerning which the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Whoever learns them by heart will enter Paradise.”Narrated by al-Bukhaari and Muslim.
Al-Haafiz Ibn Hajar (may Allah have mercy on him) said: The words of Imam al-Bukhaari (may Allah have mercy on him) – “Seeking Laylat al-Qadr among the odd numbered nights of the last ten nights (of Ramadan)” – indicate that it is most likely that Laylat al-Qadar cannot be in any month other than Ramadan, and is in the last ten nights thereof, and is one of the odd-numbered nights, but not on any particular night. This is what is indicated by a number of the reports that have been narrated concerning it. Fath al-Baari, 4/260.
Thirdly: Based on this, it is not possible for anyone to be certain that a particular night is Laylat al-Qadr, especially since we know that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) wanted to tell his ummah when it was, then he told them that Allah had taken away that knowledge.
It was narrated from ‘Ubaadah ibn al-Saamit (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came out with the news of Laylat al-Qadr, but two men among the Muslims started arguing. He said: “I came out to tell you about Laylat al-Qadr, but So and so and So and so started arguing, so (that knowledge) was taken away. Perhaps that will be better for you. So seek it on the (twenty-) seventh and the (twenty-) ninth and the (twenty-) fifth.” Narrated by al-Bukhaari.
Fourthly: The Muslim should strive his hardest to do acts of obedience and worship throughout Ramadan, and more so in the last ten days. This is the teaching of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).
It was narrated that ‘Aa’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: When the last ten days of Ramadan began, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would tighten his waist-wrapper, spend his nights in prayer, and wake his family. Narrated by Muslim.
One of the best du’aa’s that may be recited on Laylat al-Qadr is that which the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) taught to ‘Aa’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her). Al-Tirmidhi narrated, and classed the report as saheeh, that ‘Aa’ishah said: “I said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, if I know which night is Laylat al-Qadr, what should I say on that night?’ He said, ‘Say: Allahumma innaka ‘afuwwun tuhibb al-‘afwa fa’affu ‘anni (O Allah, You are forgiving and You love forgiveness, so forgive me).”
Fifthly:( Some sign of Laylat al-Qadr: )
And a sound report from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) indicates that the sign of Laylat al-Qadr is that the sun rises on the following morning with no visible rays.
Ubayy ibn Ka’b used to swear that it was the night of the twenty-seventh, citing this sign as evidence. The more correct view is that it moves through all the last ten nights, but it is most likely to be one of the odd-numbered nights, and the night of the twenty-seventh is the most likely among the odd-numbered nights.
Whoever strives in worship during all of the last ten nights, praying, reading Qur’an, making du’aa’ and other kinds of good deeds will undoubtedly catch up with Laylat al-Qadr and attain what Allah has promised to those who do that out of faith and seeking reward.
And Allah is the Source of strength, May Allah bless our Prophet Muhamad and his family and companions.
Praise be to Allah and peace and blessings be upon His Messengers, our master Mohammed may Allah bless him and his family and companions and those who followed them in truth until the Day of Judgment.
There has come to us a great and blessed month of Ramadan, the month whose greatness has been declared by Allah Almighty and honored by the revelation of the Qur'an. Allah ta ‘alaa says: “The month of Ramadan in which was revealed the Qur’an, a guidance for mankind and clear proofs for the guidance and the criterion (between right and wrong). So whoever of you sights (the crescent on the first night of) the month (of Ramadan i.e. is present at his home), he must observe Sawm (fasts) that month, and whoever is ill or on a journey, the same number [of days which one did not observe Sawm (fasts) must be made up] from other days. Allah intends for you ease, and He does not want to make things difficult for you. (He wants that you) must complete the same number (of days), and that you must magnify Allah [i.e. to say Takbeer (Allahu Akbar: Allah is the Most Great)] for having guided you so that you may be grateful to Him.” [al-Baqarah 2:185].
This blessed month is a great opportunity for goodness, barakah (blessing), worship and obedience towards Allah. It is a great month, a noble season, a month in which hasanat (rewards for good deeds) are multiplied and in which committing sayi’aat (bad deeds) is more serious than at other times. The gates of Paradise are opened and the gates of Hell are shut, and the sinners’ repentance to Allah is accepted. It is a month whose beginning is mercy, its middle is forgiveness and its end is redemption from the Fire.
For the sincere believer, every month is an occasion for worship and his whole life is spent in obeying Allah, but in the month of Ramadan he has even more motivation to do good and his heart is even more focused on worship, and he turns even more to his Lord. By His grace, our generous Lord bestows His bounty upon the fasting believers and multiplies the reward for them on this blessed occasion, so He gives abundantly and rewards generously for righteous deeds.
How can we prepare for Ramadan?
Allah says: “And march forth in the way (which leads to) forgiveness from your Lord, and for Paradise as wide as the heavens and the earth, prepared for Al-Muttaqoon (the pious). Those who spend (in Allah’s Cause) in prosperity and in adversity, who repress anger, and who pardon men; verily, Allah loves Al-Muhsinoon (the good doers). And those who, when they have committed Faahishah (illegal sexual intercourse) or wronged themselves with evil, remember Allah and ask forgiveness for their sins; — and none can forgive sins but Allah — and do not persist in what (wrong) they have done, while they know. For such, the reward is forgiveness from their Lord, and Gardens with rivers flowing underneath (Paradise), wherein they shall abide forever. How excellent is this reward for the doers (who do righteous deeds according to Allah’s Orders)”[Aal ‘Imran 3:133-136]
“ Say: “O ‘Ibaadi (My slaves) who have transgressed against themselves (by committing evil deeds and sins)! Despair not of the Mercy of Allah, verily, Allah forgives all sins. Truly, He is Oft Forgiving, Most Merciful” [al-Zumar 39:53]
By taking ourselves to account, repenting and seeking forgiveness, this is how we should welcome Ramadan. “The smart man is the one who takes stock of himself and strives to do that which will benefit him after death, and the helpless one is the one who follows his own whims and desires and engages in wishful thinking, (assuming that Allah will forgive him regardless of what he does and that he does not need to strive to good deeds).”
In the month of Ramadan the gates of Paradise are opened and the gates of Hell are shut. The devils are put in chains and a caller cries out each night, O seeker of good, proceed, O seeker of evil, desist.
This month is superior to others in four things:
"We sent it (this Qur’aan) down on a blessed night [(i.e. the Night of Al Qadr) in the month of Ramadan — the 9th month of the Islamic calendar]. Verily, We are ever warning [mankind that Our Torment will reach those who disbelieve in Our Oneness of Lordship and in Our Oneness of worship]. Therein (that night) is decreed every matter of ordainments. As a Command (or this Qur’aan or the Decree of every matter) from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messengers)” [al-Dukhaan 44:3-5]. It was narrated by Ahmad and by al-Tabaraani in al-Mu’jam al-Kabeer that Waathilah ibn al-Asqa’ (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “The Scriptures of Ibraaheem were sent down on the first of the month of Ramadan. The Tawraat was sent down on the sixth of Ramadan. The Injeel was sent down on the thirteenth of Ramadan. The Zaboor was sent down on the eighteenth of Ramadan, and the Qur’aan was sent down on the twenty-fourth of Ramadan." Classed as hasan by al-Albaani in al-Silsilah al-Saheehah, 1575.
Al-Nasaa’i narrated from Abu Hurayrah that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “When Ramadan comes, the gates of mercy are opened and the gates of Hell are shut, and the devils are put in chains.” Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jaami’, 471.
Al-Tirmidhi, Ibn Maajah and Ibn Khuzaymah narrated in one report: “When the first night of the month of Ramadan comes, the devils and rebellious jinn are chained up and the gates of Hell are closed, and not one gate of it is opened. The gates of Paradise are opened and not one gate of it is closed. And a caller cries out: ‘O seeker of good, proceed; O seeker of evil, desist. And Allah has those whom He redeems from the Fire, and that happens every night.” Classed as hasan by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jaami’, 759.
If it is asked, how come we see many evil actions and sins committed in Ramadan, for if the devils are chained up that would not happen? The answer is that evil actions become less for those who observe the conditions and etiquette of fasting; or that the ones who are chained up are some of the devils – namely the rebellious ones – not all of them; or that what is meant is that evil is reduced in Ramadan, which is a proven fact. If evil happens at this time, it is still less than at other times. Even if all of them (the devils) are chained up, that does not necessarily mean that no evil or sin will happen, because there are other causes of that besides the devils, such as evil souls, bad habits and the devils among mankind. Al-Fath, 4/145
I ask Allah, the Exalted, the Almighty, to help us all to do that and to help us to fast and pray qiyaam, and to do acts of worship and to avoid doing evil. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds.

Praise be to Allah, prayer and peace be upon the Master of Messengers, our Prophet Muhammad, his family and companions.
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) has favoured some days and months for fasting over others, such as the month of Sha'ban, which is a great act of worship. There are many hadeeth which confirm this act of the Messenger in the month of Sha'ban :
Some of the Virtues of Fasting in this Month:
Some scholars have said that fasting during Sha'ban is better than fasting during any other month, including Muharram, in which fasting comes second best to Ramadan. This is because the best voluntary fast comes either before or after the Fardh (obligatory) fast of Ramadan. Fasting during Sha'ban is similar to the Sunnah prayer before the obligatory one. In the same way, the six fasts of Shawal after Ramadan, are similar to the Sunnah prayer after the obligatory one. Likewise, emphasised Sunnah actions are better than completely voluntary Sunnah actions. Fasting follows the same pattern.
Imam Ibn Rajab, may Allah have mercy with him said: "Fasting in Sha'ban is a practice, so that there will be no shock when entering into the fast of Ramadan. Make it a habit, then you will find the fast of Sha'ban to be sweet and enjoyable."
Sha'ban is like an introduction to Ramadan, so what is prescribed in Ramadan is also prescribed in Sha'ban, like fasting, reciting the Qur'an and so on. This is preparation for receiving Ramadan with a pure soul. So, in order to become more obedient to Allah, the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to fast a lot in this blessed month. Many people are careless, yet this was the condition of the messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), who has been completely forgiven. So, what about us ???
The Prophet (peace be upon him) had two wise reasons for fasting more in Sha'ban:
CAUTION:
Some people are lazy during the first half of Sha'ban, then wait until the second half of the month before they begin fasting. This is incorrect. The Prophet (peace be upon him) forbade Muslims to fast after the first half of Sha'ban. This is stated in the following hadith: "If Sha'ban is half over don't fast" (labelled as Saheeh by Al Albaani in Saheeh Sunan Abi Dawood). The reason for this prohibition - and Allah knows best, is because it might be too late for the slave to have a chance to have his deeds accepted. If the fasting person's deeds are accepted in the first half of the month, then all he has to do in the second half, is prepare for Ramadan.
And Allah knows best.
May Allah accept us and help us to do good deeds constantly. May He also help us to take advantage of time as it pleases Him.
