Date: 29th Jun. 2014.
Time: 11:00 – 17:00.
Place: Hiroshima University – HigashiHiroshima Campus.
It was the first chance for the Hiroshima Islamic Cultural Center (HICC) to take part in the annual Yukata Matsuri event held in Hiroshima University (Higashi Hiroshima Campus).
The main activity in HICC booth was introducing both the Arabic alphabet and Arabic calligraphy to the Japanese people. In addition, a gallery of photos was displayed so that visitors can get to know about the HICC and its activities.
The number of visitors who attended our stand was approximately 100 people including children and adults with a wide range of professions. After trying to write Arabic letters, the visitor could ask for his/her name to be written in a beautiful Arabic calligraphy by a professional calligrapher from HICC.
Some impressions from the visitors are:
- “Writing Arabic letters was difficult, but exciting”,
- “I get to understand how difficult is it to learn the handwriting of a foreign language”, etc.
